The moon shines over the skies of Rafha for a global observation event

RAFHA: The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) captured impressive astronomical views of the moon over the Rafha governorate in the Northern Borders Region, while countries around the world marked International Observe the Moon Night, an annual global initiative sponsored by NASA to increase awareness about lunar science.

Barjas Al-Fulaih, a member of the AFAQ Society for Astronomy, told SPA that the observation coincided with the moon approaching its waxing gibbous phase, when sunlight angles highlight surface details and cast long shadows over craters, mountains, and slopes, emphasizing topographic contrast.

He added that the moon can be observed through various methods, from naked-eye viewing and binoculars to telescopes and photography, with this phase — which occurs days before the full moon — offering an excellent opportunity to study its surface features in detail.
